**Sys Admin Crew** Windows Scheduler Question....

I I setup a scheduled task with my windows user acct and PW to say defrag my hard drive at 3pm each day, but one day at 3pm you're logged into your account does my task still log me in and run in the background? Or is it forced to wait till the following day?

Basically I think if I have a task setup to run and Ryan logs into his account my task will be suspended but I need confirmation of this and window's site doesn't have crap about this.

There's a checkbox that controls whether the task runs when you're not logged on or not. Is this on Vista, or XP?

Windows XP.

Yes I know of the checkbox but if someone else is already logged into the box, the question is does it log in and perform the task unknown to the other user?

Yeah. If that's not what you want to happen, you can also use the "only run the task if the system's been idle for X minutes" option to supress it, I suppose.

Yeah, the problem is we want the tasks to run even if someone else logs in and it doesn't look like that will be possible. I'm doing some testing on some virtual PC's right now.

AFAIK, the task will run regardless, if it's something like defrag. My system's set up to auto-defrag nightly at 1AM, and it runs that task regardless of whether I log out my various user accounts or not. Looking at the Windows Task Status report, it's showing Successful over and over.

Sweet action and that falls inline with the test I just performed on my VPC. Thank you for the input 🙂

The answer is that yes, the task will still run even if someone else is logged in.

However, you could have tested this for yourself in far less time than it took to get an answer in this thread. Create a new user, schedule a task to run as that user 2 minutes from now, see if it runs.
