Is this loosely based on a true story?

Based on a fiction book called See No Evil, but the story is very plausible

See No Evil is not a fiction, it is written by ex-CIA operative, Robert Baer.
Check the facts.

It was on NY Times NON FICTION[\b] bestseller's list for Week of March 10, 2002 (link provided)

The plot did not tie in at the end, period. The trailers made the movie look awesome, but the movie was just a bunch of subplots loosely tied to a main plot. The movie would have been so much better if it was split and developed as four separate movies.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!

At the end, why did Bob track down the prince again?
Matt Damen should have been dead, the guards wouldn't have let him live after he so discreetly changed cars before the car blew up.
And who is that old black dude (always hanging around the lawyer's porch) and what is his significance?

Exactly. And I didn't think it was hard to follow at all; but then again, I often overestimate the intelligence of the average American adult.

If you followed Traffic, you should be able to follow this easily. The quality of this movie is about a half-grade below traffic; Soderburgh could have dazzled the audience a bit more while delivering the same message, but I think Gaghan did a fine job.

If you're looking for a fast-action thriller, please spare yourself the agony of watching this excellent movie. I hear Aeon Flux is right up your alley.

Bob tracked down the prince in the end because he figured out the plan the oil companies had. They installed his brother as king because he would allow more drilling for that one company, the dead prince was looking for the highest bidder.

The Damen issue is probably true, but then again, everyone's is messed up cause the world just came crashing down on them.

The old black dude is the father of the black lawyer. I took it as he represents the crappy side of life for the lawyer and it is what the lawyer is trying to escape from by moving up in a 'white' world.

Now Aeon Flux, that was a movie that sucked. Theron, as hot as she is, didn't make that movie worthwhile.

WTF, the critics mostly gave it good reviews.

Well, the message of the movie is, "American oil companies, led by the American President [via the CIA], are evil and are trying to keep China from taking over the world."

Most movie critics are liberals.
Liberals hate Bush and Big Oil.
Liberals love Communism and China.

There you have it!

And GT loves Bush and Big Oil, so he hates Syriana?

Makes sense.

BINGO!

However, this isn't about Bush. It's another angle at slamming "big oil" and trying to force conservation by focusing on national security rather than environmentalism. In other words, it's trying to scare people into conserving.

Like the Day After Tomorrow, this is yet another vehicle for a political message. And as such, it sucks.

Too bad the critics are praising the message rather than the movie.

I think your horribly wrong. I am extremely liberal, and I thought the movie sucked. Political ideals have nothing to do with the fact that the movie is hard to follow and boring. Also, the movie barely tied together at the end. There just seems like so many scenes that were unnecessary. For example, take the one black fellow who was in a scene for a minute and a half brewing coffee. He then sits on the lawyers porch and flicks that lawyer off. I assume that it was his father, just because of the drinking reference, but I really have no idea. Why were either of those scenes necessary? Why did they even introduce that character?

On a side note, the cinematography was excellent. Everything was shot beatifully, but the movie still sucked.

I finally saw the movie tonight. I thought it would be better than it was but no. too many loose ends. like what is the purpose of this or why would he do that?

spoilers questions:

I still don't understand why Bob (Clooney) stopped the prince, I thought he was trying to save him or warn him, but all he did was stare at him and allow the prince to be a sitting target for the missile.
What was the purpose of the committe for the liberation of Iran? I thought they would tie it into something at the end but I didn't see anything.

I thought the movie would have had a much better ending if the Americans kill the first brother and then the groomed terrorist kills the second pro-American one at the same time, leaving the country screwed.

WTF are you guys talking about?

This movie was the OPPOSITE of boring. I didn't like it at first because so much stuff happened in a short period of time, but after watching it a second time it made more sense.

Not great, but I would rate it a 3.5/5.

I just saw it. Most terrible movie ever. Luckily for me the first half had a messed up ratio so I couldnt see any of the subtitles when they were talking. So me and my friends got free tickets to see any movie we please. Dont watch this movie. It sucks.
