Syracuse, NY people... I might be moving there

Jumpem

I'm 95% sure that I have a job offer in Liverpool. I think I'll be starting in March.

I need to find a decent apartment on the western side of Syracuse. I don't really like city life, so I'd prefer something in the suburbs or surrounding towns. Preferably something without a lot of white trash, as I had a terrible problem at the last place I lived. I also need something with a garage.

Also, are there Wegmans and Walmarts on the west side? I go to those places on at least a weekly basis. Sams Clubs or BJ's would also be nice to know of.

Any other suggestions or comments are welcome. Thanks! 🙂

I've been to Syracuse a few times, checking out the campus and visiting family. The Carrier Dome is uber 🙂

There is an okay whorehouse on the west side. A little shady as expected, but if you are out of there by 10:00, you should be okay.

How is crime in the various suburbs?

Around here my house is never locked, and I leave the keys in my car unlocked 24/7 too. So I'm coming from a place with literally zero crime... ever.

Well, I'll be about an hour or so to your south (Endicott). I don't know the outlying area real well, but I do know the fairgrounds well! (I used to race microds there and spend nearly a week at the fair!) 🙂

depends on where you live... if u live in the university area, its quite shady. if you live anywhere BUT the city area, you should be fine.

I don't want to live IN the city. I want to find a nice place in the outlying areas. I wouldn't mind driving twenty or thirty minutes to get to work.

Why don't you just live in Liverpool? Plenty of apartments. Short commute to work.

It's my hometown so if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

There is a Walmart and BJs right next to each other up on Route 31 and the city is still close by if you want to go out, lots of places in Armory Square

I don't want to live in a city or urban area. I like space and relative quiet. there's also usually less crime as you get away from cities.

I don't know how to look for apartments around there, other than to just spend a day driving around the area.

I thought liverpool was sort of urban or cityish? Admittedly, I've only seen a very little part of it near the Thruway. I'll try to find some info on the place you mentioned.

Those apartments don't seem to have garages or individual washers and dryers. It might take me a bit to find what I need.

there is a parking lot and a laundry room at every floor, from what i've been told.

Congrats on the job, where at? Lockheed?

BTW, I live in Liverpool. The apartment complex I'm in isn't the nicest, IMO, but it's a great location. A mile from a Wegmans. About 5-6 miles from Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, Target, Home Depot, and a bunch of other stores on Rt 31 in Clay.

Yeah, but I want an individual garage. I'm kind of anal about my car.

I found a place called Steeplechase in Camillus I might look at.

Yeah, at Lockheed. The recruiter from NJ called me to clarify a few things and said that "Syracuse" wanted to make me an offer. Now I just have to wait for him to get back to me.

Would this be a job at Lockheed Martin? Anyway, I'm from the west side of Syracuse (Geddes). There is a Wal-Mart and Wegmans in Fairmount (~1 mile from me) and the area is rather quiet. It's also not too far from Liverpool (~15-20 min) with an on-ramp to 690 right near the Wegmans in Fairmount. I'm not sure about apartments in my area as I'm still living at home while I finish school, but I'm sure that's something that you could find easily. The only one I know of near me is Grenadier Village in Liverpool. I know a few people that have lived there and they've said it is pretty good. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
