Well, I finally got ahold of the owner of the shop I am dealing with in regards to the prices of the 955DF vs. 900IFT. I didn't badger him on the issue but I did point out the discrepency between the prices he quoted me compared with online vendors. He said the best he could go on the 900IFT was $750.00 Cdn. so I am going to order the 955DF for $575.00 Cdn. as per his original quote. He couldn't explain the difference in the pricing but he said that the $680.00 Cdn. quoted by Onvia was his cost from his suppliers.
I have to admit that after reading about the problems "gtd 2000" is having with the 900IFT I feel better about going with the 955DF. I'll let you all know what I think of the monitor once I get it. Thanks for all your help (special mention to gtd 2000 and LXi) in making my decision.

If I may share my subjective experience with my 900IFT...I've had mine for about a year and have been using it daily with no problem. The one thing, among others, that stands out the most for me is the sharpness (1600x1200 @ 75Hz driven by TNT2 Ultra). Text are clear, sharp, and focused. Even at the corners. Anything wrong with it? The biggest issue with CRTs is geometry and mine does indeed suffer from it too. But I consider it to be extremely minor and really don't notice it unless I bust out the t-square and straight edge. I have NEVER seen a CRT that did not have anything geometrically wrong with it. Some are really bad (hey, it happens and my condolences for those who were unfortunate to be stuck with one) while most are very minor and can be "fixed" with some adjustments. I've come to expect that perfect geometry in CRTs are non-existent. If one scrutinizes it hard enough, one will find something wrong.

The 900IFT is the best monitor I have owned (including an AG monitor which had major geometry issues) and would recommend it. The only thing I wonder is why Samsung left out adjustments for convergence. Not that mine needs it. 😀

Sorry to horn in on this thread but I was considering that 753DF gtd 2000 mentioned. I am just building a system and only have a CTX 14" to use with it unless I steal the HP 15" away from the computer I am on now. I don't have much room to put something as big as a 19" unless I find a new location to put it on. I ran across a rebate to use for the 753DF ($30 Samsung rebate) plus could use the Buy.com $30 off and get it at $173.75 plus the shipping (not free - over 20lbs). Then I noticed there was (expired now) a rebate for a 755DF which had more resolution. Userreviews.com should good comments on these Samsungs. The "slight bowing" mentioned by gtd 2000 is a concern. IS that 753 a real good 17" or is the 755 better? I don't recall if either had the BNC connectors. Maybe there is a better 17" around. The 2 lines onscreen for Trinitrons don't bother me as much as what I heard about the wires causing problems down the road. So far this 753DF sounded like the best deal for me unless I wait to see if the 755 gets a rebate again in the next couple of months. I used up a lot of extra $ on this system than I planned on already, so I was going to wait a while before getting a new monitor. More opinions on Samsung 17"'s would be appreciated. Thanks.

I beleive 755DF is a better monitor choice overall - higher resolutions are available. It costs approx US$60 more than the 753DF here in Hong Kong. However it depends on the maximum resolutions you will use? I have generally very good eyesight so often "notice" any sort of imperfection. The great thing about the Sansung is the 2 years onsite service so if there is any problem it should be sorted out somehow..
My friend has the 755DF and is very happy with it.

Samsung phoned today to tell me that all was well with my 900IFT and they said that the Moire problem was very noticeable and has now been rectified. The screen image is now very sharp and clear having also fixed the focus problem.

I'll give you my opinion on Monday when they deliver it..that will be Sunday for those of you in the West... 😉

Very similar to Cantonese - Sam = 3, Sing = Star.
In fact Samsung in Cantonese is Sam-sing
.....but what does lan sing gweilo mean?
Well, Lan Sing = something like smart arse, know it all, etc, etc.. 🙂
Gweilo is the endearing term for a Westerner, which means foreign devil or more literally ghost-man..
It's a bit like any name you care to think of for a Chinese which may not be considered polite...lol.... But they don't see it that way... 🙂

Actually, Mitsubishi is translated to "3 Rhombuses", its a direct translation from Japanese, "mitsu" means three, and "bishi" means rhombus. Cantonese pronounciation should be "Sahm Ling".

Yamaha never had "3" in their name, its simply know as Yamaha, a sound translation to Chinese.

Im Chinese, and I speak fluent Madarin and Cantonese.
