SYNC Tool to keep folders the same? Anyone Do this?

I was wondering if anyone uses a program to keep folders/drive synced? I work between multiple computers so I was considering having a program run to keep track of changes to ensure both computers always have the same files.

Anyone use anything to keep files the same on 2 separate machines? I've used Microsoft SyncToy in the past but wanted to hear some other solutions.

I also want to consider syncing 2 drives that are in different locations over the internet. Something secure, or something that runs through a VPN.

I Definitely do not want to use a 3rd party service to host the files, but instead just want the two machines to talk constantly to keep the files updated.

Anyone know of anything like this?

I also found these programs:
ViceVersa
AllwaySync

Anyone have experience with either of these?

and I definitely don't want to use FolderShare which is the service by Windows. I hate the idea of knowing my files are on a server out in the world.

Can anyone recommend a strong synchronization software that will work over VPN?

While we're on the subject can anyone recommend something like this to keep a USB drive synced with a folder on a PC.

Here are a few more but I am not sure if these sync over VPN, but they do over LAN. Wondering if the ones that state they work over VPN's have some type of connection and error controlling in case one of the machines is not connected.

Anyone have experience with any of these, or the others I have listed?
