hey and symantec makes Ghost, so what happens to the powerquest imagecenter/drive image pro software?

guess there will probably be less choices in this niche

Symantec also acquired Ghost in 1998. I think they will keep the name 'ghost' even if they incorporate driveimage technology.

I'm fine with it as long as they keep Partition Magic; we'd all be screwed without it.

It'll probably be part of Sytemworks 2005 (eww, I get the willy's just saying 'systemworks')
😉

Damn this sucks. There is going to be no choice in hardware or software at this rate. Better blow off the dust on my Coco 2 we'll be back to machines like that in no time.

And its one that I've used often but it always displays damn partition errors when it boots up making the software completely useless.

Partition Magic really sucks nothing but errors and problems, I switched to Partition Commander it's a hell of a lot more stable and reliable then PM.

It does suck that there won't be Drive Image vs Ghost competition anymore, at least we still have Acronis True Image 6.0 !

i get those errors also , so i don't use it

This is news to me too.

PartitionMagic has been a great tool for me. Resizes and creates partitions as advertised. I haven't tried anything too crazy with it.

I live and breathe PartitionMagic... wonderful program, don't know what I would do without it.

I hated DriveImage though. I always used Ghost, or ZenImage (Novell Networks).

I love Drive Image and hate PartitionMagic, Drive Image actually works although Drive Image 7 is bloated as hell, version 6 is better in some ways.

Where I work we still use Drive Image 3 on a daily basis to image NT4 harddrive on ATM machines. The actual Drive Image CD was lost for 5 years now we just used the floppy disk.

This is good and bad. I hope Symantec doesn't try to integrate pqmagic into ghost. That would open up so many bugs & data loss it wouldn't be funny!

I've been using drive image since it first came out and I really like it. Ghost on the other hand can't even save an image to an NTFS partition (in the 8.0 version I have). Pretty lame. Hopefully they'll drop ghost and keep drive image.

that's cause you had an older version of ghost.

i use ghost and ntfs. no problem.

ghost 2003 will do ntfs older versions won't, ghost is pretty complicated for the noob though compared to drive image and true image.

I will miss Drive Image, always found it to be faster & more stable than Ghost.
PQ was handy from time-to-time. Sadly, Symantec will probably end up fvcking up both apps.
