I'm thinking about attending the South by Southwest conference (SXSW) this year in March. Anyone ever been? Is it worth the cost/time? I would probably get a pass to see everything, music, film and interactive. It costs about $1,300.

For those of you who don't know what it is, it is a big tech, music, film conference/festival:

If you plan on sleeping somewhere other than your car, book accommodation now (and it may already be too late).

I love SXSW, but I would never pay to go. There are so many free shows and parties with free music that alcohol and paying for a wristband is hardly ever worth it.

I only go for the music, though. I'm not sure how it is if you're interested in the film festival and/or industry panels and conferences.

I'm planning on going in 2015, mainly for the Interactive section. I work in the field and every one I've met has suggested going.

I have been a few times, but I also lived in Austin at the time, so it wasn't expensive. I also wouldn't plan on buying entry to everything, you won't make it.
