SX1030 PSU Decision

Ok, PSU decision time... do I go with the Antec 300W, the Antec 400W, or the Enermax EG365P-VE(FC)? I'm thinkin the Enermax.

I got the case yesterday and put the Enermax in it. The Enermax is just pure quality and was well worth the cash. The Antec PSU is actually quite decent but is not really useful for overclockers and hobbyists due the short cable and lack of extra moldex connectors.

The comment about short cables and a lack on connectors has me wondering if you have an antec case. My antec sx1030 has 6 drives in it and the floppy and didn't have to use a splitter. Just counted and there are 8 drive connectors with only 1 small floppy type. And the mb ps is long enought to reach anywhere in the case. Perhaps you didn't get an antec ps or maybe you got an older model. I beleive alienware in a maximumpc article said that they used antec because of their very low failure rate. If you are worried about the ps gat the sx1040 with the 400 watt ps. HTH

No problems with my Antec 300w. It has been running 24/7 for 6 months and handles the system in my rig profile just fine 🙂

the Antec 400W has my vote...it has been doing extremely well in here! If you don't need 400W then get the 300W version...

The 1040 only comes in beige though. 🙁

You could probably start with the PSU that comes with the Antec case and then add an higher power Antec or Enermax later if your system needs more power. If you can get a deal on the Antec case like at EMS Computing, you can have it for around $100 shipped and that's pretty much a steal for the 1030 case and the 300 PSU.

That's how I'm going to start. If I need another PSU later, I will just throw this 300W Antec into my work computer that currently has some brand called Foxlink and it's only 250w with a fan from hell! 😉

The antecs are great the but enermax is awesome! I am using one right now. Gotta love the second intake fan on those enermax supplies. Its right above the CPU.

They're both excellent PSUs. The Enermax is probably the forum favorite but I'd try the Antec first and see how well it works. If you don't like it then you can always try the Enermax.

If you're like me, and leave your computer on 24/7, then go for the Enermax. Antec's supply didn't hold up in mine running 24/7 and it's flakiness eventually damaged my motherboard. I went with an Enermax, and between that and the rebuild after the motherboard fiasco, my computer appears to be more stable, with fewer lock-ups.

Incidentally, my 300 watt Antec was in a barely 14 month old AMD Athlon Slot A 700 setup with excellent ventilation. Now my rig is a Socket A 1 Gig Athlon in the same case.
