careful if you are a rooter.

I finally got approved for beta a while ago. It only allows you to change your phone once. It made me change it between ROMS, so I got to use their version exactly twice.

Just a warning

Of course, there are a bunch of recent builds floating around on XDA...

ahem

I love Swype. I pity the iOS slaves who are barred by Jobs from using this stuff.

I tried out swype but I just couldn't get used to it. I installed the gingerbread keyboard and am loving it so I'll probably stick with that.

Swype beta is not for any phone that has Swype already bundled.

Good to mention. I guess installing swype separately (like from the app market) somehow mucks up your bundled swype, and doesn't work. The bundled version continues to not work after the apk has been uninstalled. I think that doing a factory reset might not fix it either. You'd probably have to do a recovery of the stock ROM.

Just a quick note I'm not sure what turnaround time has been like in the past but I signed up for it and 3 minutes after activating I got the link to download the beta.

Then why did it hate me? :(

Possibly because I was trying to use it on a Vibrant? It worked fine on my HD2 but then I tried it on my Vibrant with CM 6.1 because Cyanogen doesn't include Swype. I got a verification error twice and then gave up.

Now I just do what I need to. I don't feel bad since Swype was included with my phone and I'm officially a beta tester. Not my fault the installer is buggy as heck!

Not really buggy, it just used to be quite confusing for the user to understand what was going on. Older versions of the installer used to leave the phone in a "not authorized" state if the user clicked through the install prompts too quickly. The newer installer specifically tells you when the install is complete and when the license file is being created on the phone, as long as those two steps aren't interrupted it seems pretty foolproof now.

lol. and as a user of iOS and Android, I pity typing on Android. Even the new Gingerbread keyboard that FINALLY brings in multitouch into Android's soft keyboard is pathetic. The prediction is still terrible compared to iOS. It's funny that the record in typing is still set on iOS. I'm not saying Swype sucks, but it's just a red herring to cover up the shittiness of Android's soft keyboards.

lolwut? I have no issues with the keyboard. Your anecdotal evidence blanketing all is getting old.

He is the only user of iOS and Android in the world. None of us have both. Oh, and US is inferior to the rest of the world when it comes to cell phones. Nevermind both iOS and Android were developed here.
