I've gone from a godaddy or verisign to a self signed one many years ago and I think it had the users re enter their credentials on their mail client and owa. Was wondering is going from a self signed to more secure ssl would prompt everyone for their credentials again? I think it might not going to a trusted one.

You will challenge them via credentials. But they wont be annoyed by having a non-trusted cert prompt.

If you are switching your SSL certificate from self-signed to other trusted certificate, you must need to provide credentials to generate a CSR and install the certificate on your server. Certificate authority will verifies that details before issuing certificate.

That is done, my question was from a user/client side, will everyone be prompted to reenter credentials on all devices/mobile etc. The answer was no.

Try Rapidssl they are cheap! Single root cert's so no intermediate cert install necessary!

No the site will remember the cookies from the domain name, not the Certificate used
