Switching mobos and chipsets; complications?

I was a winner if the AMD giveaway but I wanted a new KT266A mobo, so I got the MSI flavor. A 'friend' said he would buy the one I won and had already sent payment. Trusting him, I ordered the MSI board but a month later, he's nowhere to be found and I need to return the mobo.

I'm running WinXP Pro.

Anyway, I need to take this mobo (and GF3 Ti200) out and return it. I'll put back my Prophet 4500 and I'll use the Gigabyte GA7DX mobo (AMD 761 chipset) I won.

I've always thought it'd be best to reformat the HD before doing this, but I've gone through one too many reformats lately and I don't feel like doing it again. I haven't installed any Windows Updates (as they were causing the reformats) and can't remember installing any Via 4in1s (if I did, it was v4.32).

Would just switching the mobos be fine or should I really consider a reformat? What would be problems I'd run into? Anything I should be aware of?

Any and all help appreciated..

Wow, switching MB's and video cards? I'd say switching the video cards would not be to big of a problem, but the MB chipsets could give you some major headaches and you'll probably end up reinstalling all of your drivers anyways.

If you don't have a buch of staff saved, Your best bet is to start from scratch. Sorry, I know that's not you wanted to hear. :(
