Switching from Raid Card to Onboard Raid

Hey,

Right now I have 3 drives on my raid card (Promise Fasttrack TX2). I am going to be getting a new motherboard with onboard raid very shortly. Can I or is there any way to use the onboard raid without having to format and repartition my drives? (Can't backup the information on them and I can't afford to loose it all).

It depends on the onboard controller. I have successfully migrated an array from a Fasttrack TX2 card to an onboard Promise Fasttrack-lite without losing any data. (It also migrated back just fine as well, although I think I had to redetect the array when going in this direction).

If you're moving to a highpoint based onboard raid solution, I don't think you can migrate without having to start over.
