I've got $500.00 to spend on a CPU, MB and ram. Is an 850mb and rambus the way to go? I know P4's are very memory bandwidth dependent so don't think ddr is the way to go...I dunno. Help:confused:

If you want to go RDRAM............go with the P4T533..............it is the top performer as of right now, but, the SiS 648 chipset which just came out is hot on it's tail. With DDR, if you want the new SiS 648 chipset, right now the Abit SR7-8X is about the only one available as of now. It is sweet and fast and runs a close second to the P4T533 with RDRAM. The 845G chipset is also very nice.............there are many boards available with that chipset and either the SiS 648 or the 845G should be easy to do for right around the money you're looking to spend...........:) Good Luck!

The Epox 4g4a is a better choice, great overclocker... You will have the slight advandtage with RDRAM, but an upped FSB will send you flying...

That 1.8 will easily hit 2.4

Also, WHy skimp on the RAM? You will want 512 unless you are a "lite" user... ;)

You have to skimp on the RAM w/ P4T533 -- you've only got a couple slots, and at $175 for a paltry 256MB...

SiS 648 looks great, but I'm sticking with 845G for the time being.

Exactly, why spend that, you get half the memory, with a small performance boost...

He's right...

Stick to the 845G

Ok...I'll look into 'em. I have an Epox8KHA+/ XP1600, an Asus A7V266-E/ XP1900 (which I'm selling) and an ECS K7S5A/Duron 800. All three of those boards have given me absolutely no problems.

I've got the P4T533 with 512mb's of PC4200 and an Abit SR7-8X which should arrive tomorrow with 512 of DDR-400 Samsung..............that's right DDR-400 Samsung......not O/C'ed DR-333..........................I got it through Ingram Micro (the ram) but if you hold out, I was told NewEgg will have the Samsung DDR-400 tomorrow.

Nothing wrong with the 845G's................I just prefer the SiS and 850's. Had one but I wasn't really impressed and I love trying new stuff so..............;) I'm sure any of the aboved mentioned will work great but maybe wait on the ram until tomorrow and get some real Samsung DDR-400!:)

Hmmm...that SIS 648 chipset sounds pretty impressive. DDR 400 and 8x AGP (that'll work with Nvidia's upcoming Omen or GF5 or whatever the NV30's gonna be called). Good benches too.

You guys are right about the ram and since the 850 chipset's been around for a couple of years now, it may start getting rare as well as expensive. Besides, I would like to have at least 512 since that's what I have now and ddr, even 400's still less expensive.

Besides, I'm in no hurry. My XP1600 will get the job done in the meantime :)

I can't say much beyond the reviews and B/M's for the SiS 648 board yet as it is due to arrive tomorrow according to FedEx...............;) I was pretty impressed with it in the reviews and all, but, I just bought it because it was new and wanted to try it out............

As for the P4T533.............I will agree with the other guys that for the cost, DDR boards make more sense, but, what wasn't mentioned is the fact that there actually is 128mb or 256mb's of either PC3200 or PC4200 (whichever you pick and depedent upon where you buy) of RDRAM packaged with the P4T533 when you buy it! I got mine with 256mb's of PC4200 and then bought another 256mb's of Samsung for $147................not so bad............but still expensive!;)

If you do opt for the SiS 648..............be sure and wait until tomorrow and get the Samsung DDR-400 from NewEgg.......;) Have fun and enjoy it!:)
