Switching Drives

Is it possible to simply take out a HD from one computer and transfer it to another? The motherbaord on my old system failed and I want to simply transfer the HD with windows XP on it to my new system. Will this cause any problems with drivers or booting of the system? It is a small 60 gig drive and i want to use it for my operating system while i use my tow larger one for storage. If it is no possible to do this swap, can anyone suggest a way i can reload XP on the small drive without losing all my data?

What are the specs of the old system and the new system? Are the motherboards using the same chipsets?

The old system was a HP 752n. God knows what they had in there. I know it had 512mb of ddram, a P4 2.0ghz ad a stock 60gig HD. I have built a new system with a Intel 865g BOXD865GBFL motherboard running a P4 3.0ghz processor.

There's a FAQ topic that addresses this question. In short, your best bet is to run a repair install of XP once you setup the hard drive on your new system. I would recommend backing up your data if you can just to be safe.
