I just recieved my new mobo (old one is shot). Anways my cpu is still sitting in the old mobo with the hs/fan attached. What im wondering is will i need to buy new thermal paste and apply it when i take the hs/fan off and remove the cpu and place it into the new board? Or will the existing paste still suffice? Do you think i could still use it while I wait for new paste to arrive?

youd should always reaply thermal paste when switching a cpu but I have found that sometimes you can pull the hs/f and cpu out at the same time and not sepperate them and it was fine. I would always reapply the paste if it isn't a hastle

just be sure u boot into bios and have a peek at the cpu temp immediately when u do the change... or you'll get to buy a new cpu for that new mb, maybe, since they do get hot fast......

best bet is to hold on till tp arrives and then clean the cpu and hsf good, apply new goo, and assemble carefully...

So you mean unlocking the cpu with the hs/fan attached, then release the hs/fan and they will be stuck together and i can attached it to the new mobo without breaking the bond?

pretty sure that's what was meant... if the hsf doesn't hang over the lock lever u might be able to do this...
