I'm done with a local cedit union. Please make recommendations like so:

bank name / Grade / Reason for grade

Eample for the one I'm leaving: Coast Hills / C / Great service and fee structure, but not enough locations or branches.

Thanks in advanced guys!

That about sums up 99% of all credit unions.

WAMU usually receives the highest satisfaction ratings.

Wachovia / B+ / Not many fees for accounts, decent online banking system. Lots of local branches, a sh!tload of ATM's, CSR's over the phone are always nice.

Basically, they are a decent bank, but I guess the only tradeoff is that as the bank gets bigger, the personal attention drops off.

Fleet/Bank of America

what's there to say, probably more branches than anyone else. service is ok. it's great tho when my CA clients that are BofA send me checks and they clear the next day because i am BofA also. ;)

does even chase manhattan have more branches than Fleet?

of course i originally signed up with Summitt (the NJ bank, most branches in NJ) which got bought out by fleet (big presence in NE and some presence in SE) which is now bought out by BoA, big presence in West.

so, Summitt, Fleet and BofA means, branches just about everywhere.

compass bank / a+ / the best bank i have ever used. totally free checking, free checks for life, and will reimburse any atm fees from any other bank
wachovia / a / free checking, convenient atms and branches, no hassles at all

i only use wachovia now bc compass is not local to here, though i do still have my account open and i use it as my "rent" account

for short term savings, just go ing

I have WAMU. I am satisfied with them but I ask very little of the bank. Hardly ever go there.

+1 Wachovia, but I don't do much. I can check my balance online, they sent me my debit card quickly, and they've got a partnership with VISA so that a lot of the stuff that you charge to it as a credit card accrues points that you can use for stuff.

I've never called, and haven't been inside a branch for months, but people can't really tell you much about the branches unless they live close to you.

Bank Of America / A / Plenty of locations and ATMs, decent service to where it isn't sickly overacted, and free checking(depends on how much $$ you got)
