When I'm switching one Radeon card for another (9000 Pro with a 9600 in my case), do I have to reinstall Catalysts?

Also - can anyone recommend me an alternative to the Radeon 9600? I don't want to spend more than ~$80. I only need a general advice (i.e. chip reccomendation like Radeon 9600XT or GeForce 5500) and not a specific offer since I'm not in the US and can't order online. Thanks!

Nope, should be fine. Windows will renumerate the card, so you may have to reboot while it does this, but other than that, you're good to go.

I switched from a Nvidia card 8 MB to a Mvidia tnt 2 32 MB and didn't need to redo the drivers.

Not sure about the Omega's but I believe ATI has different Drivers for 8500 and below as opposed to the 9K series
