Virgin Mobile wants consumers to know that it's a major player in the no-contract wireless game too, and isn't afraid to spend a little money to show it. Offering $100 to T-Mobile customers willing to switch their number over and buy a smartphone before May 31.

GET YOUR $100 CREDIT
Choose from our hottest phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy Victory™ 4G LTE and the Samsung Galaxy S® II 4G.
Transfer your T-Mobile number when you activate your new Virgin Mobile phone. Limited-time offer ends May 31, 2013.
Pick a plan and make a payment by May 31, 2013.
Receive a $100 service credit on your account within the first 30 days of switching your T-Mobile number.

Seems like a good deal if your unhappy with T-Mobile. Promotion valid on the $35, $45 or $55 plan.

Tmobile 2g speed probably still beats sprint 3G speed. I get about 100kbps on sprint 3g.

The only reason to do this is if T-mobile coverage sucks in your area. Otherwise, T-mobile's phone selection is better (by virtue of being a GSM network), and their network is much faster.

Let's see... Virgin Mobile = smaller network than T-Mo's (Sprint Native Only), limited phone selection, Sprint's network (slow), and no BYOD (yet). Is that worth $100?

Agreed, it's all about where you live. It could be a great deal, or a completely worthless deal depending on where you are.

I'd love to try virgin mobile and $100 is tempting, but the phone selection is terrible. Is it their policy to only offer phones that are 2 years out of date?

I really wanted to go Virgin Mobile but was really deterred by the coverage. I live in a large metro area, so local coverage might be OK. The problem is that we take 2 or 3 cross country driving trips each year, and who wants be in so many dead areas if you should have an emergency?

While lacking, they're definitely starting to step up with the phone selection. Not too long ago pre-paid meant you'd get a flip phone that had a 1.5" 128x128 screen. To a lot of people a $200'ish phone like a Galaxy II at $35 a month they're going to jump. I suspect within a year they'll start offering new model phones. They did get the 4s when it was still a semi current phone.

Pass. I dropped virgin 6 months ago for the T-mo $30 100min/2gb 4G plan. I don't get Virgin's random days without data, have better coverage, and can bring any device I want. Seriously, Virgin wants the same for a locked SGS2, which is about to be 2 generations out of date, as Google wants for an unlocked Nexus 4 8gb?

Anyone want a Motorola Triumph locked on Virgin, by the way?
