Had it with Virgin Mobile, there service gets worse by the day instead of better. Most of the time, I get one bar even in major cities.

Looking to switch to T-Mobile or ATT AIO, was considering Sprint, but this thread had me decide to avoid them.

Straight Talk: $45/mo, unlimited voice-text, 2.5gb data with LG Optimus Extreme.

ATT AIO: $55/mo unlimited voice-text, 2.0gb data

T-Mobile: $60/mo unlimited voice-text, 2.5gb data

Since Nexus 4 is sold out, will have to wait for Nexus 5 towards end of Oct.

Suggestions ?

It's a wash on a single line. If you're ever considering getting multiple lines (family plan) down the road, it's T-Mobile hands down.

If you don't use that much talk time, TMobile has a $30/mo prepaid plan: Unlimited (first 5GB @ 4G speeds) data, unlimited texting, 100 minutes; extra minutes are $0.10/min.

Just provide your own contract-free phone and get a SIM card from them.

Why not AT&T GoPhone? $60 for 2 GB of LTE, unlimited talk & text.

Since you are going for prepaid, why not try out both? Give one a month and the other the next. The worst that can happen is unsatisfactory service for one month. Porting number over could be a bit of hassle but it's going to be a one-time thing once you decide to settle on one of them.

If you need the unlimited voice, go Aio. I'd go for their 7gb plan though.

Can you bring your own device with GoPhone ?

I'm fine with a 2-year contract, don't want to pay more than $70/mo max..

Need unlimited voice/text, 2GB is ok. Don't do videos or music with my phone, some web browsing, email and a lot of gps navigation, 7GB is overkill.

That's why I mentioned the $0.10/min if you go over. You'd get an additional 300 minutes before you spend more than your first plan listed. But if 400 isn't enough, I don't have any other suggestions.

I appreciate the suggestion, the $30/mo plan is good for someone who makes very few cellular calls, it wouldn't work in my case.

I would go with any of the other MVNOs.
T-mobile has several MVNOs that offer unlimited talk text and 2GB+ of data for $45/mo (straight talk, solavei, etc).
ATT I would go with gophone or straight talk now that they offer LTE for $45/mo. AIO would be my third choice.

Solavei looks pretty darn good.

Straight Talk over AIO or GoPhone...$10-15/month less, 2.5 GB LTE.

Was at Walmart yesterday, was speaking to a customer (real honest reviews than asking an employee) who loves Straight Talk, he buys the 3-month card and doesn't have to worry about a cell phone bill till next quarter. Walmart had the 3-month card in-store for $125.

I asked him about the 2.5gb limitation, he said he uses the phone every day as a gps, tons of emails, texts and web browsing and never exceeded the quota. He says if you need to watch videos/music, do it on wifi.

He was using a LG Optimus Extreme phone that has FM radio built in. Nexus 5 will be good if/when it comes out.

Can anyone please recommend a phone to use with Straight Talk ?

$41.67/month...pretty killer deal.

You will even be able to stream music no problem....I stream Pandora an hour every day on my commute to work and only used 1.1 GB last month. You will have plenty of data as long as you don't watch YouTube/Netflix on cellular 24/7.

Stick with a Nexus GSM for Straight Talk. I agree with waiting for the Nexus 5, it will undoubtedly be released next month and will probably cost $299.

Welcome to the beautiful world of pre-paid.
