While ATT has better coverage in Natick, MA than T-mobile (especially in my area) I still wouldn't get ATT. Yes, they are that bad.

I switched from verizon to ATT. I had verizon for about 6 years before I switched.

Verizon has much better customer support and coverage (especially in rural areas). If that means alot to you, then I wouldn't switch.

At first it wasn't worth it. The iPhone 3G was buggy, dropped calls, and had shitty battery life. The latest firmware updates have fixed most of the problems though, so it's pretty good now.

I wouldn't. iPhone is pretty and has some neat apps, but still too expensive unless you plan on getting a high end monthly plan anyway. I've always been partial to Windows Mobile smartphones, though, so I'm a little biased against the iPhone.

EDIT: It really depends on your priorities, though. Do you need a data plan, and plan on doing a lot of mobile web browsing/downloading? Or are you looking for a phone to actually make calls most of the time?

I have Verizon and have contemplated the switch but I use to have AT&T and hated it. I'm waiting for Blackberry Storm to come out to compare.

I have no qualms with AT&T, but I use the Tilt myself (hacked with Omnia III rom with TouchFlo, so it's like a wanna-be iPhone :p). Signal will possibly be worse when comparing GSM to CDMA, but hell... when I upgraded to this phone, I noticed quite a difference when in stores... as I actually could keep a signal (albeit not always a great one) the entire time.

the one thing i hate about Verizon is how they lock down the phone so you can't install anything but what they want. Everything you want to do cost you money.

I switched from VZW to ATT for the iphone 3g. I love the iphone, ATTs service is lackluster. I would wait for the Crackberry Storm to come out and play with it.

My brother has a Tilt, also using a cooked ROM that I loaded onto it for him (he put some iPhone theme on there, so it even looks like an iPhone UI). I'm still annoyed that HTC didn't give the Tilt proper video driver support. Other than that, I like the number of programs for WM6 that are available, and Android and other ROMs on the development horizon look promising.

The expensive service has kept me from getting one. $70/mo + tax is just too much for me.

Uhm, care to elaborate? Never had an issue with mine, it's beyond stable and has managed to replace my MP3 player, phone, casual internet device and my DS.

I've been on AT&T since 2000 (it was Cingular then), and I've gone through plenty of phones. It seems like the service can suck or be great just based on which phone you choose. I use the AT&T Tilt with the original firmware and it works great. Previously I had a MotoRAZR V3xx and it was not so good.

AT&T service in most areas is very good. And you get Rollover of any Unused Minutes ... So if you have a month of low minutes usage and then a much higher amount of calls, you don't get an overage charge. Rollover minutes expire 1 year from when you accumulate them. First on, first off. As to the Verizon phones, yes, I agree, they try to lock down everything so you can't even install a ringtone without paying (or so they hope) ... I have them on a V3M Razr and it has been hacked to allow most of the disabled features to work. Including stuff like my own ringtones, AT&T siren, T-Mobile ring, able to use the Mutlmedia Studio with Motorola Phone Tools, which can't be done without doing some
hacks to the phone.

I went from tmo and the original iphone to at&t and iphone 3g. Att definitely has a better network compared to tmo.

Compared to sprint, att 3g is still slower, but the extra functionality of the iphone definitely makes up for it.

Yes and yes. I went from a Mogul on Sprint to iPhone a couple of months ago and haven't regretted it at all.

3g coverage is great where I am (except the DC metro) and where I travel and I use wireless more often anyway. The app store alone is worth it.

This has been my general impression too. It's generally very stable, and I replaced my Samsung MP3 player, my Nokia cell phone, all my car road maps, and gave me a portable video player, internet surfing device and game player which are things that I never had before I bought my iPhone

I can give a long litany of things that I don't like about it - including the fact that for a segment of the population my choice of cell phone seems to instantly define me in a positive or negative light. I don't understand people who buy cell phones based on style - I'm a geek and no gizmo is going to make me look cooler - but I can appreciate a well designed gizmo.

I hacked my phone and stuck with T-Mobile, so I can't comment on the OP's question except to say that I like my iPhone.

I'm torn on this so bad. I have a $30 a month Sprint account with Unlimited everything and a Palm Treo. I LOVE my ipod touch though and wish I had the wifi part everywhere - which the iphone would do and keep me from carrying two devices.

My only problem is that I have such a good plan with sprint that I don't want to lose it and pay $60 a month for ATT and it suck. That and my wife and family members have sprint, so we use the sprint to sprint minutes and don't use much regular minutes.

Could you enable WiFi on your Treo, and then install some tethering program on it that would set up an ad-hoc network that your Touch could use via WiFi to give you internet everywhere (that Sprint has service, anyway)? You'd still have to carry two gizmos, but you could get what you want (internet everywhere on a Touch). For enabling WiFi on the Treo, how about a WiFi SDIO card? Enable Treo 650 SDIO: http://www.palminfocenter.com/view_story.asp?ID=7443 and then buy an SDIO WiFi SD card like the one that Spectec makes: http://www.mobiletechreview.co...c-miniSD-WiFi-card.htm and then set up a WiFi ad-hoc tether. It's an idea anyway...

So go get an iPhone, and try it out. You have 30 days to do so, but if you return it, there is a 10% restocking fee. Oh and the lowest plan is $70.

AT&T may have shitty coverage, but I'll take GSM over CDMA any day of the week. Plus, the mod community for the iphone is quite large at this point. Unlock it, and bask in the glory of the iphone.

Odd, when I checked the plans in my local area a few weeks ago it said it was $59 a month?
