switch or router

i am getting DSL soon, i am using crossover cable connecting my 2 pcs now, do i need a router to share the internet connecting or i can get away with a switch if security is not a concern

that depends because some DSL modems will connect all computer connected to it via DCHP so just a switch is needed whereas some services will need a router to split the IP.

You can also use a switch if you throw another network card in the machine that will be directly hooked up to the DSL

you are going to have 2 computers that will share one IP address right?

you need a router... a switch doesn't have the ablity to route IP traffic.

I agree that you will need a router, unless your isp gives you enough IPs for each computer. If that is the case, you can just use a switch.
