switch from 32 bit to 64 bit

I figured to make the switch I had to buy a new version, but I hear that isn't true. I own the OEM version of Vista HP 32 bit. I hear that you can just buy a DVD for a nomial fee from MS and use your own validation code, is this true? Is this just for the Full version, or what?

I d/l a 64bit version and installed it with my legit 32bit oem key, have been using it for months now without problem.

what if i have activated my HP 32-bit OEM and reformat it and install the HP 64-bit version with the same cdkey? will it work?

It worked for me with dell. I used the CD key on the bottom of my dell that came installed with vista 32.

I too used my Dell CD key, but Dell sent me the Vista Business x64 disk.

ok, just confirmed !! i installed home premium 64-bit using my 32-bit OEM cdkey, activated.. and it did. I downloaded the torrent that is AIO? it has all the windows version 32- and 64-bit

it's not sp1 yet.

and by the way, i noticed something different than 32-bit, now i cant use 4gb when i m installing windows (i can use 4gb anytime when i install 32-bit), BSOD when installing windows using 2x2gb and BSOD after installing windows. Now i just updated to SP1, hopefully that fixes that.

The DVD I received through a promo has all the versions on it including 32 and 64 bits.

Forgot to mention that you access all the different types by NOT entering your key during install.

I have Vista Home Premium OEM (32-bit) and I ordered a 64-bit disc from Microsoft that they shipped to me for ~$10 and I'm running 64-bit Vista now just fine, too .

Did you fix your 2x2gb RAM problem. Maybe you need to pull it out during installation?

My oem copy of Vista ultimate specifically says you can pick 64 or 32 bit before installing.

Did you fix your 2x2gb RAM problem. Maybe you need to pull it out during installation?

Yes you can use this torrent. AIO = All In One. x86 and x64

Not yet, i m still getting BSOD, random restarts, and unable to update to sp1

do you get the random errors and crashes with just 1 stick of 2gb?

that i m not sure, i will try to reformat my computer again. I also noticed my cpu % keeps going up and down compared to 32bit i've previously installed.

I scanned the file before burning it, so there shouldnt be any virus.

HP, as the system builder, is responsible for your OEM Vista. Did you try calling HP to see if they can supply a 64-bit Vista DVD?

As far as I know, Microsoft has never issued an "All-in-One" 32/64-bit DVD for Vista. Is this something that Microsoft has released, or is this a Warez-only production? Thanks!

It's a warez only production and I wouldn't be surprised if it was in fact a rootkit or something to that extent. Avast not detecting it means nothing.

I would only want to use a legitimate 64 bit DVD from MS. Especially if you have to resort to The Pirate Bay for an iso.

Cracking and scene release groups aren't pleased with the prevalence of public and private trackers making grabbing releases as easy as pie. There is a deliberate effort on their part to taint many releases on those sites with viruses, rootkits and other interesting toys. They hated xdcc bots and .nfo update sites before torrents became popular and now that torrents are so widespread they've turned their attention there. It's called putting poop in the punchbowl so people are wary of taking the drink.
