Switch CPUs in Centrino 2 platform?

I am going to buy a thinkpad and I would like to change myself the cpu for something like the P8400. Is it possible? Did someone here already changed his cpu on a intel laptop?

The CPU can be changed. It is not as easy as in a desktop and
will take some time to do it.

And doing so will void any warranty. Also, will it be worth it? You'll be throwing a hotter processor into the mix, which the small system may not be able to handle.

Based on the possible uses for that notebook, I don't see any advantage in changing out the processor.

If you are going to buy it, then why not buy it with the CPU you want and avoid the hassle?

I am an electronic technician so it wont be a problem to open up and change the cpu. Basically my concern was about the compatibility.

The SL9400 that comes with the laptop is rated at 17watts for 1.86ghz... I want to switch for a P8700 for example wich is rated 25watts 2.5ghz. The later is more powerfull by almost 1ghz for only 7 watts more...

I will use this laptop for work obviously but I want a really snappy feeling and I'm used to a overclocked 4ghz dualcore desktop...

I cannot choose an other processor for this model, I already tried.

Yes I was already going to buy the basic X200 at first but it doesn't have a wide "+" screen with LED... Some small improvements for the x200S version too..
