im thinking of doing a few days of swimming along with my regular workouts.
should i expect better toning of upper body?

Swimming is an excellent low impact cardio workout for the full body, although you can target your upper or lower body with particular strokes.

I started swimming about 800m 3 times a week. Its the best cardio and since its full body it sures up weak points you never noticed (ankles for me). You may bulk up shoulders a little but thats about it. Oh and keep those food cravings under control after you swim.

Power 500s
25,25,50
25,75
50,50
75,25
50,25,25

Do them all on the same base time (for example 20 seconds for 25, 40 for 50 and 80 for 100), do a few of these. If you want to do other strokes IMs are good.

do you plan to swim 5000 yards? or sit in the hot tub? A "swim workout" can mean many things.

or stare at the hotties in bikinis?

Either way, he'll be doing the front stroke while thinking about doing the breast stroke and back stroke.
