i have 2 questions about this heatsink/peltier. 1. is it gonna require a crazy fan to work well, and 2. will it handle a 2.4 gHz t-bred b (i'm gonna get a 2100+, and i'm aiming at 2.4)? thanks!

I think its just that no one cares. j/k

I think you'd need to pump plenty of air through that bad boy to keep it cool, maybe even some ducting to keep the heat outta the case.

From the Swiftech website http://www.swiftnets.com/products/mcx462plusT.asp:

Recommended fan: 80mm fan with a minimum 68 CFM rating. Performance of the device is tightly dependant on the heat dissipation provided by the fan. Careful consideration should be given to the choice of fan, depending on the thermal load, and operating conditions.

Also, I think 2.4GHz may well be attainable. It mostly depends on how well you cool the peltier. If I understand the theory correctly, for a given power input, the temp change between the hot and cold sides stays the same. So the better you cool the hot side the better you cool the cold side. I believe condensation and frosting also become problems with TEC use.

Here's a good write-up: Peltier Performance Tests

this swiftech still ranks as one of the top hsf. if this thing can't handle a 2.4 ghz t-bred not many can. you will however have to put a decent 80 mm fan on it tho.

68 CFM :Q

i run my mcx462 with a 30 cfm fan. quiet. i don't have the tec though.

This cooler costs between $80 - $90 and then to get good cooling you have to run an 80 CFM fan? I think just about ANY cooler running a fan at 80 CFM will cool the CPU down, so why pay $80-$90?

So you can tell the world you've got a XP2100+ @ 2.4GHz running at -3C under full load. Honestly, I like the idea of TEC, but I think it would be a better option to use w/ a water cooled setup. A 68CFM fan maybe prohibitively LOUD and you've got to worry about heat dissipation (outta the case).
