Swiftech MC462 and P4 1.7GZ

Well, this doesn't work very good on my system. Ideal @ 114 and full load 132 deg. I put the stock cooler back on and just chanded the fan to 60mm delta. Now it's 107 ideal and 125deg. at full load. I tryed every thing to make the Swiftech work, so it would cool the system. NO GO on this P4. My case is a LIAN LI PC 70 so there's all kinds of cooling fans blowing out in back and 2 blowing in, in the front. I use RC5 to put full load on CPU for a hour. Then I run RC5 in the back ground and run 3DMark 2001 looping demo for a hour. Any others with a P4 using the Swiftech cooler?

Wow, I am surprised that the Swiftech was beat by the stock HS and a 60MM delta. I am expecting my 1.7GHz system this week and I was seriouly thinking about the Swiftech. Your situation is the first that I have heard of where the Swiftech is outperformed by anything. :Q

What kind of thermal paste are you using? Not having a P4 yet, is there anyway to make sure that the cooler is seated properly? You may have investigated these things already. I really want the Swiftech to work for you b/c I am very interested in getting one myself if the stock HSF doesn't do the job.

Anybody else not impressed with the MC462?

Buffaloman57, how loud is the Swiftech? I know that is a subjective question. Some reviews suggested that you have to have the rheostat (voltage adjuster thingy) or the sound is unbearable. You did get your with the "Sanyo Denki 80x80x32mm, "Petite Ace 32", quiet series fan" didn't you? This fan moves 53CFM and is 45dB's. This should definately beat a 60MM Delta. Something is weird?

Thermal paste= Arctic Silver, that goes what saying. You really can't see if it is seat. But I tryed adjusting screws and put it on a couple of times just to make sure. Don't wast your 80.00 dollars. I e-mailed alpha and they said they are work on one for the P4. I really like the Alpha coolers. Why don't you e-mail Alpha also so they know people want a good P4 cooler. Sound on the Swiftech isn't that loud, the 60mm Delta fan is louder. Hey, I even but a bigger fast fan on the swiftech and still didn't work as good as the stock heat sink w/delta fan. The swiftech came with the Sanyo Denki DC Petit Ace 32. You don't need the volage adjuster. But that is 80.00 dollars wasted. Also if you get a ASUS P4T mother board you will have to cut off 1/4" from the swiftech or it won't fit. So the fan is only held in place by 2 screws.

I think I'll just email the good folks at Alpha. They do make good coolers. Hopefully they will produce there P4 solution sooner than later. I am not going to spend $100 (including shipping) for a HSF and then have to cut it! If they can't adapt their P4 HSF to the number one selling M/B for P4's something is wrong.

make sure the supports are all even...lop sided will get you bad performance.

I hand the motherboard out and made sure all sides were even. I measured with I.D. mic's to with a .001 And then tryed to adjust NO GO. I installed this take no less than 4 time. What a piece of junk. I don't care what the reviews say I don't thing there any good. And this is the first heat sink I installed. I think I might put this motherboard and cpu I the Kryotech case and try some active cooling on it?
