For those who don't know me, I'm a senior in high school. I am currently doing auditions at various colleges and schools of music to be a piano performance major in the fall. I'm auditioning at a total of 8(!) schools (I'm indecisive), and have completed two so far. This saturday I auditioned at the Lamont School of Music in Denver, which I was particuarly interested in because I wanted to study with a teacher who is there. I was pretty nervous about this one.

For my audition, I had to prepare about an hour of music (memorized), covering baroque-contemporary (20th Century works). Plus some technical stuff and sight-reading. There are some specific requirements they have within that, but that's the gist. They heard about 45 minutes of my program.

About half an hour after I finished my audition, the teacher whom I have an interest in studying with approached me, shook my hand, and informed me that the jury of professors (herself included) already voted unanimously to accept me, and she wants me to be a pupil of her studio. I couldn't believe it, they accepted me on the spot! She then informed me that scholarship money was in the works (which I need because I'm out way out-of-state and it's a private school), and gave me two tickets to her performance with the Colorado Symphony that night. During the intermssion of said performance, she found me, pulled me backstage (of this HUGE performance hall) and introduced me to Jean-Yves Thibaudet.

What an amazing way to spend a Saturday, lol. I'm bragging a bit, I apologize. But I'm just really happy right now. I feel so flattered, someone who I hold in such high regard is very interested in having me as her student. Only six more auditions to go. 😉

Congrats, sounds like they really want you there. Reminds me of the way Div 1A schools treat potential athletic recruits...

Yeah, I remember your posts, too, and I'm not old. 😉 3 years isn't very long.

man thats awesome! i play the clarinet (not a music major though). im also interested in violin (i love vivaldi). maybe i'll get my hands on one someday and learn how to play the four seasons, among other pieces

I was just going to ask for some clips...go get recorded! Although I'm sure you'll be in a studio at some point in college...and recording a piano can be just TONS of fun 😉 😛

Hey, congratulations! It's awesome that you have such a talent like that and get actively recruited.. I hope you go somewhere in life with your gift and your hard work.
