Sweet tiny baby jesus (This weekend's CHL renewal class)

Nebor

Lifer
So I drove to rural east Texas this weekend to renew my Texas Concealed Handgun License. It was in a trailer at a shooting range. Everyone there knew each other, since the instructor (and owner of a pawn shop gun store) had given them all their original licenses.

The class started with everyone discussing how China, India and North Korea would all (individually) invade America. It was "China will have soldiers in America within 10 years!" And "All the engineers in America are Indian now, and they're rigging up everything they build to collapse and explode on their signal!" And "They're gonna nuke us any day now you know."

Then they played some videos which were so far right I was trying not to giggle. Then they discussed the shooting of the Arizona congresswoman ("that's what happens when you go against the will of the people!"

They rambled for 4 hours to fulfill the classroom portion, never discussing any of the changes to Texas CHL law, and then we went out to the range. All of the women wrapped their fingers around the triggers of guns as soon as they picked them up, and never took them off, even when loading a magazine and hitting the slide release. And one of the women repeatedly slammed a backwards magazine into a Springfield XD, so hard that it had to be taken away from her to be fixed. And that's to say nothing about the average accuracy (lack thereof.) Of course, everyone was given passing scores, even the women scoring 12\50.

Scarifying. Also the rate at which most of them fired could only be described as glacial. The old man asked me if I was "in a hurry or something."

I'm pretty sure the TEA would pull his instructor status if they sat through his class.

How the hell do you handle a weapon and put the magazine in backwards. How does one come to the conclusion of "oh, bullet points towards me!"

And the girls with their ah heck hook on the trigger would have me hitting the deck.

So what on earth made you drive out in the piney woods to do your renewal class with such a dimwit? There's only about a thousand reputable instructors in this area

I live in the even dimmer witted piney woods of Western Louisiana. It was the closest instructor.

Personally I'd report that instructor. He is doing everyone a disservice by not properly teaching the program.

<sarcasm>Nebor, I'am sorry but I do not see the problem there? Maybe the ladies had problems with the magazine going in the right direction, but at least nobody was shot with an accidental discharge??</sarcasm>

Being from East Texas, you did not mention beer or whiskey on the range, so that is good thing.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse, everyone that carries a concealed handgun in Texas should be up-to-date on the laws without the instructors help.

Sounds like they are ahead of the curve on the china invasion.

Wow. The class I took was very informative and professional. The local police department handles the classes. Before going to the range, we even got to use the police training simulator with the real Glock and projection room.

That's pretty slick. I'd enjoy that. I could get behind some situational training requirements.

This.

The instructor is putting the students and innocent people in danger by letting them continue to carry.

Owning a gun is a right we should all be free to exercise but if you prove you can't handle a weapon responsibly (violent criminal offender, fail basic gun safety, etc.) you shouldn't be legally allowed to obtain one.

Tell you the truth, if I saw somebody with finger on the trigger hitting the slide release, my ass is hitting the floor.

And people laugh when I say gun owners are paranoid. Trust me, I encounter this same lunacy in California when I talk to some gun owners.

With all that talk about nukes falling, I assume owning a gun can help defend against nuclear warheads now?
I guess guns have come a long way since I fired a .22 rifle about 12 years ago.

:awe:

Well they were pretty good about keeping the weapons pointed in a safe direction (down range) but I still thought they were bound for an ND. I was waiting on it.

so instead of speaking up and correcting them or helping, you just sat there and did nothing except make fun of them?

sounds like you shouldn't own a gun either.
