<< Yea, I guess that's why insurance companies charge males under 25 the highest rates cause they're such good drivers. >>

Actually the rates have nothing to do with the statistics.. if you do a little research you'll find that there is no difference between teen female driver accident statistics and teen male statistics. It wasn't this way 15 years ago when the rates were established because women were safer drivers then statistically or maybe there were just less of them I don't know but now this is no longer the case. The insurance companies are unwilling to even the rates of the teen males to the females based on the statistics and there is no company stupid enough to jack up the rates for the women to equal the men because they would lose HALF of their customer base if they did. Besides they don't care because the way they have it now is very profitable for them. So just don't go spouting that everytime you see an argument like this because that is completely unfounded and if you happen to have access to some insurance company accident statistics and some research reports on this topic you would be pleasantly surprised at what you could find.

Actually I think the males under 25 insurance rates are so high because the tend to drive sports cars and V8's and I figure since we drive at such high speeds damages and personal injuries tend to be much higher in those high speed accidents. But in terms of awareness of their surroundings and such we've got to be near the top. And accidents usually arise when the differential in speeds is the greatest. So if those people would speed up it would help a lot, or of course we could slow down 🙂.

edit- oh man I pressed reply and in that time there were a couple of answers to the 25 and under male question. oh well I guess you can throw my theory out the window.

I drive an 86 Saab 900 with only liability and I pay $120 a month on insurance.. about $1440 a year and that's with my Dad on the title if it were just me my rate would be about 20% higher I believe.. and that's just liability and the lowest legal amounts as well.. that's insane.. while I know a girl who happens to also have a Saab 900 (an nice '85 I found for her) and I think she said she pays about half that.. either way I'm looking forward to being 25 when my rates might start to drop.. cause I am being gouged here and there is no way I could afford comprehensive right now on a student's budget..

I think it is a good idea to not allow anyone over 60 to drive and in return I would ask that these same over 60 persons not have to pay any tax that could be used for roads--highway patrol officers--city street repair--traffic control signals--parking meter repairs or replacement or meter readers. Probably more but cant think of them now.
Bleep

Sort of got side tracked from the topic..

Men can be just as bad as women in every case.. old people (but not all old people damnit!) are definitely the catalyst for the majority of crashes because of many factors including the fact that most of them learned to drive nearly a half a century ago and have that kind of a place built in to their driving habits which is tranquil times compared to the traffic gridlock, road rage and traffic laws established in modern times.. in regards to any driver, regardless of whether they were following the posted speed limit it doesn't matter because it's safer to stay with the flow of traffic so if everyone on the highway is going 75 and your staying at the steady 60mph speed limit then you are the problem not the people forced to pass you (and you can justify it all you want but it's like walking in a stampede, not the best idea, it's safer to do what everyone else does to a certain point, there are limits to this logic which I already agree with) keep with the flow and the same would hold true to a driver charging at 80mph down the highway while everyone else is going 60 the speed demon would be the problem (unless of course it's open road 😉)..

I myself have had experiences that made me generalize drivers which is a bad thing but not an unsafe thing to do, like 50 year old asian women drivers scare me (too many close calls for my comfort)!! And as a rule I try to be as defensive a driver as possible when I notice any elderly driver because you never know what to expect and it's better to be cautious than be road pizza.. as for men drivers go ride along with my friend Steven (OMG I try not to do that anymore because I like life) and tell me you think all men are good drivers.. either way everyone should take a Defensive Driving Course (makes sure it's a reputable one that'll teach you something) because along with slightly lowering your insurance rates it'll teach you how to stay out of accidents and keep them low or lowering in my case.. 🙂

Haha, 60 is a little young to be pulling people off the road don't you think? As long as people have good corrected eyesight and no other physical impairment which might interfere with driving I see no reason they shouldn't continue.

I think another problem we have is the Driving tests from our Deparment of Motorvehicles

<< Middle of the bell curve is most likely optimal, age-wise. >>

Ba - da - bing!

Look at accidents per driver, by age.

Let's get all the 18 year-olds off the road and I could wear my hat and drive my 1986 Cadillac to Florida without worrying about any of you young whippersnappers!

no no no.
weavers can't drive.
those dumb a$$ always think they are faster by doing their suicidal maneuver.
they don't care about their life that's great, but they really put others in danger.
not to mention, after all those lefts and rights, sometimes they still end up behind you.
ah...stupid people amongst us.
