sweet jesus why are my friends such IDIOTS

Both my roommate and I left our apt for the holidays a week or 2 ago. Everything was cool until one of my neighbors came home to find the apartment upstairs from mine pouring water onto our deck. We had him talk to the fire department (next door) who found an unlocked window to my apartment that they used to check for water damage. Thankfully there was none.

I found out earlier tonight that another one of my friends thought it would be funny to steal my xbox through the same means. The one I had deal with the situation told no one, so I dunno how he knew to get in. The later tonight, (long story short) a girl needed a fish out of my place so she was told how and got in too.

OH MY GOD HOW COULD THEY BE SO STUPID. Now, I don't really care about the xbox, I would have lent it to him while I've gone. What's pissing me off is they're putting my WHOLE FVCKING $2000 HT system at risk, among other things. All I need is a spying neighbor and I'm going to get fvcked. There's nothing I can do about it either until my roommate gets back from vacation a few days from now.

cliffs:
fire dept needed to get into apt through window
next day friend decides to take my xbox as a joke (through the window)
another friend does something similar tonight
exposure puts $2000+ HT equiptment at risk

They won't be doing it again, but the damage has already been done. If ANYTHING happens to my apt. I plan to hold him 100% responsible.

Ask him to go back in and lock the window?

If they lock the window they'll have to leave the door unlocked on their way out. We had a spare inside but the week before I left if broke off in the lock and we had the locksmith come while I was at the airport. Apparently he didn't leave another key.

Jeez...calm down! Your friends/neighbors seem like they're looking out for your place while you're gone. You're lucky they're the only ones who discovered the window you left unlocked.

Peace on earth, good will to friends...

No, the fire department discovered the window unlocked. Apparently under some rule without the owners present they have to leave the building as they found it (window unlocked). After that my friend decided be an idiot. Better yet, he didn't even tell me, someone else noticed a hint about it in his away message and mentioned it to me.

Explain to me how them playing xbox a block up the street is "looking out for my place".

If people really want your stuff, they will just toss a rock through thw window anyway. You are worrying too much about it.

Not to mention you left the window unlocked in the first place. Nice try at a secret entry, no their would EVER try just pushing open a window...

True, but with all the "traffic" through that window it just encourages thieves. The blinds are all down so it's not like I'm advertising anything.

If peopl see that the window is easy pickings, the likelyhood of someone going in are drastically increased. Even if they don't know anything valuable is inside, they figure they've got nothing to lose poking a head in. They probably wouldn't think of it otherwise.

Why would they have to leave the door unlocked if they were to reenter and lock the window? Every door I've ever seen can be opened, locked from the inside and then closed - and remains locked.

Not necessarily. I'm assuming you mean the lock on the doorhandle/doorknob, correct? Well, on our door, the key that opens the shlague (sp?) is not the same as the little turn lock on the knob. Btw, have I just not been paying attention or have you not been posting much as of late EyeMWing?

All my doors are locked by deadbolt.
