I'm so glad you found this, my family has a team of student architects building our next home, and one of my requirements is a secret passageway like this, I think the book case would be great to conceal the place where the home theater setup goes.
 
Hey, wasn't there some nutcase who kidnapped women and held them in a secret underground room? IIRC, he was caught about a year ago...

And, now we see that a bunch of people here want to have secret hidden rooms... Hmmmmmmm....

FWIW, this thread did give me a couple of ideas for a new basement stairway... I need to access the basement from in the house, but plan on also installing outside doors to the basement. Having a more confined stairway to the basement will allow me to expand my kitchen by 5 feet on one side. 🙂
