Sweet deal on Klipsch 5.1 at newegg

Klipsch $375 shipped for the 5.1. Good deals on the other sets too. You also save $20 with any creative product, so if you need a 5.1 soundcard the deal is even hotter.
Hope this is not a repost.

Are the satellites wireless or is everything wired?

Also Are there any good 5.1 or 4.1 speakers that are wireless? My PC setup really does not allow for wire to the rears?

You're kidding, right?

<< Well, this post cost me $375....thanks. >>

LOL, sorry man. I thought this was a pretty sweet price cut. I have been waiting for a while, and it is getting harder and harder to resist!

This is a good post. OneCall had them in a preorder status last Nov and with a coupon and shipping the price was about the same. I decided to wait to see if the price would come down some more. Of course it never did.

IMO, barely warm. These list now for $400 apparently. I got the Promedia 4.1 v.2 400's back when they were $250. Then they came out with a new model with an off button and a headphone jack(these had been missing features that should have been there in the first place). They had the nerve to charge $50 more for these ones. Next they got 5.1, with a center speaker and a control piece. For this, u pay $100 more. Now I could understand the cost of the 5th high-quality speaker, but you can already have 4 and the bass for $250 or $300. Why should the 5th be worth so much more than the other 4?

It's not the additional speaker that raises the price it?s the Dolby Digital Decoder. It requires some fairly advanced processing to decode 5 channels of digital audio so it raises the price quite a bit. Not only that there is a huge license fee that companies have to pay just to use technology.

For that $$$... buy a stereo

I think you'd have a pretty had time putting a together a 5.1 system with Dolby Digital decoding for $375, that could compete with the Klipsch's performance.

Tell you what, if I had the money....hmmm......but I don't. 😛

Don't make me put my rent on this....🙂

Edit:

<< Also, some of us would rather have a PC entertainment center instead of the larger and more expensive home theater route. >>

Well, and when you have that larger home theater or worse still, or some high end stuff, $400 can pay for a pair of wire only.... 🙂 Let these speakers pull you off....

The increased price from the 4.1 is not only the extra speaker, but also a larger subwoofer. The 4.1 has dual 6.5" drivers, the 5.1 has dual 8" I think.

Klipsch 5.1's DO NOT come with a dolby decoder. And as ElusivePeon mentioned, 5.1's come with dual 8" woofers instead of dual 6.5" woofers for the sub. That, and the extra center channel speaker.

Heh, oopps my bad 😱.

That kinda changes things, still not a bad deal. But if you want a true 5.1 system your going to need a decoder, oh well 🙁.

Hmm, I was not aware of that. Doh. I have sb Live! so I have spdif out but not 5.1 discrete analog out so I couldn't use this in a 5.1 configuration. Well maybe I'll wait on it then. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

doubtful. first of all wireless speakers have inherently lower sound quality. they would require separate amps for each speaker and powersupplies or batteries. the cost would be quite horrific for a decent set. as for your rear speakers, i doubt there isn't a solution where you just route wire along the wall. if you buy some decent 16gauge wire from radio shack you can use the extra length to hide the wires quite easily along the wall or whatever. they sell solderless miniplugs for easy conversion.

Squalish2357 your kidding right? this set has power boosted to 500watts. the subwoofer has 2 8" woofers instead of your 2 6.5. its center channel is slightly different. its not just your 4.0 with a new speaker. and try as you might, its basically impossible to convert your 4.0 set to 5.1😉

... oh please...

sour grapes, anyone?

Alright, dumb question from me:

If I have a 6 channel sound card (one of the cheap one's from MPSuperstore posted on here a while back), and I buy a 5.1 speaker set, do I get 5.1 sound when I watch a DVD? Or do I need a decoder on top of the 6 channel sound card? Or does PowerDVD decode it?

Basically, I'm trying to decide if it's worth paying more for a 5.1 speaker set or just get a 4.1 set. I have seen some 5.1 sets that appear to be sold with a decoder, but are big bucks, while some like the creative sets are cheaper, around $120.

Thanks in advance.
