At $370, I can almost see myself paying for CS3, but at the regular $1000 or whatever the hell it is, Adobe can bite me.

Well, anyways, I think it's like $20 off academic pricing plus free shipping...so about a 10% discount total. The prices on the new CS are definitely a bit higher, but this was the best deal I could find for my summer session.

Maybe a little OT, but how is CS3 different than CS2? Why would I want to spend $370 (much less $1000)?

Actually, it's even better. You can get CS3 Design PREMIUM for roughly the same price. If I can find a cheap online class that qualifies, I'm enrolling:
