Sweet! Comcast just upped my bandwidth... methinks by a little too much

With who? Who's your provider?

EDIT: Nevermind you use Optimum Online. Optimum is a 3.5MB download (basically like comcast). Not 10MB

The main email address for your account should get an email telling you to reset your modem to get the speed bump.

Yes, it is 10Mbps / 1Mb for OOL... where'd this 3.5Mb come from ? I've downloaded much faster than 3.5Mbps many times over the last 3 years.

Sorry you are incorrect. I've download many times from speeds ranging from 500kilobytes/s to 1.1megabytes/s. So thats what, 4-8.8Mbits/s? Optonline is bare minimum 5mbits per second when downloading from a good server.

That's the one I already have that I want replaced :). I'll look into that Linksys.

I upgraded to this for the same problem (although worse in my case) as seen here

It did not help. The solution was to change the router wireless channel. I tried several, then got one that was perfect. Did a firmware upgrade too, but it was mostly the channel switch.
I've tried every channel except 1, 2, and 11 with not much luck. Anyone know what the non-shared channels are?

Mine worked best with 11. The Linksys site said the best channels were 1,6, and 11. Worth a shot ;)

Just tried every channel, barely got over 3Mb, and this connection is definately faster.
EDIT: Just transferred a file over the wireless connection and it only hit 3.2 MB\s, so the router's the bottleneck.

It came from Optimum Online webpage. It states

"Optimum Online is faster. Period. Optimum Online delivers average download speeds of 3500 Kbps".

Also here in a review of performance vs. other vendors, It shows Cablevision/Optimum having an "off-peak download" of 4,473, this was with 803 test. No where near the claims of 8-10mb you guys are saying.

You could be reaching very high speeds because of packet shapping or you just have very hot lines. Who knows.

OOL's cap is 10Mbps/1Mbps, just like Comcast is now 3Mbps (?) on record. It never means you'll get that, but you know where I'm going with this. It's not a burst thing over 3.5Mbps (stated avg.)... it's sustainable as long as the server is capable. OOL is the best out there and always has been. ;)

Uh.... upload a lot? :p Seriously, I need a faster upload. I would be perfectly happy with 768/768 DSL, but it costs a FREAKING FORTUNE.
