One thing I don't get, though, is *why* is this being re-released this year? The timing is cool (Halloween), though.

Probably to generate buzz for the 9-Disc Alien Quadrilogy DVD Box set which should be coming out soon.

I just saw it, and I did not notice one single added scene 😕

Audio was not up-to-par, but they did a good job updating the video.

Whoa, same day Matrix Revolutions is coming out. Big whoop, after I saw the second one I lost all hope in the Matrix.

There are apparently some scenes cut and some added (added ones were on the DVD?)

Well, I must say it was refreshing compared to the CGI BS Lucas pulled when he re-released EPs 4-6.

Resurrection may have sucked, but Sigourney Weaver was sexy in it. I thought she was going to violate Winona Ryder . . .

The scenes showing the failed clones were disturbing.

And when is the fifth installment coming out? Aliens invade Earth and Ripley has to defend the planet?

I agree on that failed clone scene!

I also liked Alien 3: the religious parallels and Ripley diving into the lava at the end.

I haven't heard anything about this. I do know that Alien vs. Predator is slated for August 2004.

uh... this wednesday.. meaning a week before revolutions

Although I love this movie I can't see any reason to pay 8.50 to see it in a theater when I have the whole collection on DVD anyway.

I'll pass.

You got 50' screen at home? 😛

Now that I'm use to longer movies, I felt that Alien DC was a bit short. They shouldn't have removed any scene from the original. But it's definately worth it to see on the big screen.

On the issue of "old school sci-fi f/x". I'm one of those people who really hates poorly done CGI. They really detract instead of adding realism to films. Just look at the new Star Wars and Matrix Reloaded. For me the f/x in Alien actually withstood the test of time. It was really good. Great atmosphere. The scene of the direlect (sp?) spaceship was incredible. Having a man-in-rubber-costume alien seems to be better than the CGI as seen in Alien 4. When Aliens came out in the 80s I felt it has one of the best movie f/x ever (still is today). Using real props and models seem to do the trick and are more believable than CGI f/x to me. The fork loader in Aliens looks more believable than the CGI mech in Reloaded, in terms of looks and movement. For me if you gonna do CGI, it has to be done really well like Jurassic Park and Lord of the Rings.

Bah...the only Alien movie worth watching...the original...this time it's the Director's Cut.

All of the sequels blew chunks.
Not at all. Aliens rocked awesomely, it was just a different kind of movie than Alien. Alien was a horror movie. Aliens was more of a war movie.
