Is based on a musical, is there singing in it?

I think you know

Actually, no. I wanted to make sure before I wasted some PPV money on it.
So, is Depp out of the closet now?

It's not your money paying for the PPV so only my opinion is relevant. Yours is worthless.
If there is singing in the movie, I don't want to see it.

just saying you're missing out on a really good movie just to avoid a few songs.

it was well worth a rental and my wife really enjoyed it.

I hate musicals in general but thought Sweeny Todd was great. If you like Tim Burton, you'll like it, period.

Ditto. Its not really a musical directed by Tim Burton, its a Tim Burton movie that happens to be a musical. And a very good one at that.

I watched 5 minutes of it on an airplane and couldn't take anymore.

Watched Cloverfield instead.

And worst taste award goes to :p

Sweeney Todd is fantastic. Then again, I believe Sondheim is one of the greatest geniuses of our generation, and I'm open to all forms of entertainment before I judge them, musical or not.

i've also seen a 2001 dvd version that was a live performance... sweeney todd in concert, filmed in san fran city opera house.
that was pretty good as well, professional singers that time. Doogie houser played the little boy lol:) its on netflix.

the angela lansbury version is a bit crap.

The music is really dull, not a single memorable melody. It sounds really generic. The movie was good all the same.

I saw the play, we got given the tickets and I wasn't thinking it was going to be that good. I was wrong, it was great. Definitely worth a watch.

It was a good movie that happened to have OK songs and singing in it.

The other two Burton musicals were better (Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride) but Sweeny Todd was quite watchable and dark-humored fun.

Based on the body count I think Depp gets to keep his man card. Slashing throats with a straight razor is manly man's work, not like being a lumberjack.

I might rent it one day, but I couldn't sit there and listen to a musical without falling asleep, and I really wanted to stay awake. Cloverfield was a bad movie, but it was entertaining at least. I also watched I Am Legend, and on the way back National Treasure 2. There weren't too many choices.
