Nice, good luck. I hopped on the Apple bandwagon a few months ago with my 17 inch PowerBook, and ain't looking back. Great machines, great OS, tons of free open source software available for it (Linux source compatible 🙂). If you are someone with prior linux experience, I suggest you install fink so you can gain access to a package manager for tons of open source software for your mac. Also, download Adium 2. Although it is in alpha, it is by far the best AIM client on any OS. http://www.adiumx.com

I have an iBook myself, about 10 inches away from where I'm typing (on my PC right now).
 
I'm typing this from an iBook.. though I'm very tempted to buy a new Powerbook 12". Waiting for Spring to see if Apple introduces any newer models so I can get a speed boost before I purchase one.

Yeah, I tried it, but liked adium better. I guess I can't in good faith say Fire.app was bad, so to the OP, try both and see which you like better.

250 ft from romm with 2WIRE Router with Airport inside.
Sitting on tthe curb in front of the neighbors house. I guess nows the time to turn on the WAP security stuuff, right?

Hehe. Yup, WAP is nice, I love all the security features. The only thing I dislike about my airport base station, is that it always reboots itself after a settings update. The things got range though. Also, you can turn down the transmitter power if you like, so that it only transmits within a certain radius. This setting can be found in the AirPort Admin Utility. Go into your base station, and click "Show All Settings". Next click the "Wireless Options" button right next to the Mode combo box. In there you should get a slider next to the label "Transmitter Power". Good luck.
 
xEDIT409: From what I've read, Virtual PC for mac isn't worthwhile for doing anything really processor intensive and such on an actual PC, so don't look for good results for playing games on it.

Come to find out the 2WIRE has WiFi. I need the other user to be there as she has it PW protected and 2Wire wouldn't let me access the box without it
I did manage to get her G3 connected to her LaserPrinter (She's a musician) for document printing. I had to re-install the printer and do a setting change in the Computer. She was at work (Lion King in SF) so I'll have to wait until she gets home to dial it all in. They have an HP "all in one" fax scanner printer copier I was thinking about connecting as a network printer as well. Whew..... never quite know what you can do untill you start hooking things up. huh!?
