OMFG, this has to be right up there with the US defeating Russia in 1980! the US will most likely medal now if they continue to play as well as they have!
 
So does finland/canada winner play Belarus? Talk about an easy road to the gold medal game.

Sweden must've been looking forward to a game against finland or canada. That's gonna get ya.
 
Really thought Sweden had a shot at a medal.. oh well.. I'm gonna be home just in time to see the USA whoop Germany! 🙂

Agreed, 1980 U.S. was just mostly college players right? The Belarus team has second tier players, but they're still pretty good.

The 1980 team was all amateur players.
The 1980 Soviet team was all Soviet professional players -- some of the best of all time, including the only player in the NHL Hall of Fame who never played in the NHL (goaltender Vladislav Tretiak) -- and they had beaten the NHL All Star team the year before in 2 out of 3 games.
 
i never said it was better. i said it was right up there. big difference. and this is a HUGE upset. Sweden was picked to medal. Belarus was a shock to even make it this far.

this is the worst game ever!!! the swedish hockey team must have had a big party yesterday and all of them had the worst hangover they ever had! DAMN american beer =&THORN;

how could Salo do something like that, talking about the 4th goal.. a shot from the red line....

the belarus team even had airplane tickets for tomorrow to go home to belarus.. and now the stinking swedish team has to go home in shame to a country that won't forgive them in a while.

Did you guys know that Belarus (or Belorussia) translates in to "White Russia"? hehe..you don't see many minirities up there...


Anyway, I really couldn't believe it. I mean, Belarus got mauled by the US and Sweden looked unbeatable!

Wow, but then again, its always nice to see the underdog win. 😀
