Swapping SATA channel on mobo

Hi guys, pardon my noobishness. I was just wondering if swapping the SATA channel on mobo, currently [SATA2] to [SATA3] would have any kind of effect on the hd. My instincts say no..but hey.. better be safe. Its for better cable management purposes.

Another thing i noticed my seagate7200.10 had a jumper limiting it SATA1 will taking out the jumper and changing it to SATAII cause any problems as above ?

Edit: Unless your motherboard is old and supports SATAI and has trouble with SATAII, you should really be using it as SATAII.

Shouldn't have any problems switching ports on your mobo. I haven't done it on a mobo myself, but I've never had a problem doing so on my RAID controller. Also, I have had a Western Digital RE2 hd that shipped with a jumper installed--I had all kinds of problems with it until I pulled the jumper out. It wasn't ever supposed to have shipped with a jumper. Check the specs and find out what is the normal or proper setting for your hd.

Allrighty thanks guys. I guess the SATA controller on my mobo should be smart enough to detect the master boot drive on the right channel and boot it.
I'm using a MSI neo4 mobo btw.. it supports SATAII natively as stated on the manual

I've removed the jumper limit so my hd should be in SATAII mode now... how can i tell if it is running SATAII ? I've loaded HDTach it says supported SATII
currently in UDMA mode 6 is that SATAII ? shouldnt it show SATA instead of UDMA? Avg Speed is 70MB/s burst speed is 113

Use a program to view the SMART data. My RAID controller is reporting the SATA mode of my hd as "SATA300+NCQ(Depth32)".
