Swapping ram with a friend, I need your help.

I have a 1gb Gskill stick(3-3-3-8, single stick) and two corsair value select 512mb sticks (pc3200, dual chanel kit, 2.5-3-3-8).

He also has a gskill 1gb stick, identical to mine, and he has a 4-slot dual-channel capapble motherboard.

I'm trying to convince him to swap with me, that way he'll have a faster system overall and i'll have a matched dual channel setup (which with my mobo, might mean higher fsbs, and three sticks in his mobo is no problem because he doesnt overclock). He just doesnt see that he's getting a great deal, could you guys back me up on this please.

Just to clarify, all sticks work perfectly, not like any of them are faulty. He also probably won't be upgrading anytime soon, and as i said, running three sticks wouldnt hurt performance for him at all.

thanks 🙂.

the point of this post is hopefully to convince him that it's a good idea. It helps both of us 🙂

If you voted "No" please explain why you think it's a bad idea.

it would make it more difficult for him to upgrade

still 2 more slots on his mobo, and running with a single extra stick has no downsides to it(a fourth would force 2t command rate)

But his product on hand will have lower resell value...

a non-issue. he won't be selling it. the value is very close, and the corsair sticks actually cost more(new at 80(2x512) vrs new at 71(1x1024), used at 60 vrs used at 60.).

imo he shoudl get 1gb of ram himself instead.

😕 he'll have 1gb either way

umm.. if he gets 1gb of ram himself.. it would be 2gb.

i mean I would love to trade my 2 512mb sticks for 1 gb stick... but it costs little bit more.

meh..

he won't be buying another gig anytime soon. and if/when he does, he's still got the third and fourth slots open.

I don't understand. He has the 1gb stick and you have a 1gb plus two .5gbs. You want to give him the two .5gbs... yet you say that would cause him to have 3 sticks. How is 2 = 3???

i'm saying that he'll have the third and fourth slots open for later upgrading, so it's not going to cause him any problems upgrading.
