Swapping PS3 hard drives

Is it easy to swap out a smaller 40 PS3 hard drive and replace with it with say a WD 640AAKS or something else? What is the interface protocol on the PS3 drives???

The interface is SATA and no you cannot use that drive. You'll need a laptop drive, preferably 5400RPM.

Swapping the hard drive in the ps3 is not difficult. Make sure you have the proper screwdrivers though, as those screws strip extremely easy and you wont be able to take anything out without some serious work.

yeah, you need 100% perfect screwdrivers. If you don't, the play-doh used to make the screws will be stripped.

I just upgraded my 40GB to 250GB yesterday. The actual hardware install took 2 minutes. The software part took a couple of hours since I did a backup and restore with the OS install in between.
