Swapping Motherboards with SATA Raid -- Will it work?

I have an Abit AV8 MB, and I have two 250 SATA drives in a mirrored array on that board. (Using built in Via raid)

I'd like to swap out my board to a newer nforce board. Like maybe the MSI K8N neo2

What are the odds that I'll be able to take my existing Windows XP install / raid array and plug it into the nforce?

I really, really don't want to reinstall all over again, and I'm hoping that even if the raid array doesn't work, that Windows XP will boot and I can install the new drivers.

Am I up s**t creek?

Thanks!

Notwithsatnding the sata raid, your problem/issue is the chipset drivers. The current install has VIA chipset (mobo) drivers while the new mobo needs the nForce/nVidia chipset drivers.

HERE'S an Anandtech article on how to change mobo/chipset drivers w/o a reinstall. Scroll to the bottom and look under "Misc Notes"

Can't really comment on sata/raid, but first thing I'd look at there would be the drivers. Are they the same or not etc?

Good Luck with it,
