Swapping CPU

Thinking about swapping out an AMD 1700+ for a 2600+ M on my secondary PC. Just wondering if WinXP will still boot up or will I have to use the repair feature on WinXP CD?

I have found articles on swapping out the motherboard, but I'm sure since it's a major change WinXP will not allow it without a repair or reformat.

As long as the mobo supports it, WinXp won't care if you change the CPU.

It'll sh!t its pants if you replace the motherboard though, so be warned.

Yes, I know about the mobo swap and WinXp not liking it. I did that a few months ago and I had to just buy a new hard drive and load XP on it and transfer all my old data to the new drive.

So, swapping CPUs will not do the same thing? I guess that's very good new for me. Looking forward to getting the new CPU and installing without having the same problems I had with the mobo switch.

I'm pretty sure changing CPU's will trigger Re-Activation.
