badass. it only cost me $36.

pros:
better battery life
much better version of htc sense os
3d camera, if you're into that, which i'm not really, but i guess it's a bonus
better battery life
dual-core snapdragon processor

cons:
no kickstand
5 megapixel camera with the evo 3d instead of 8 megapixel from the evo 4g
have to redownload my apps and reorganize my screens

You know, I'm amazed we don't have more threads about smartphones. They're obviously popular, and definitely, this being a tech site, you'd think it'd have a subforum just for this. :awe: ():)

How's the 3D screen on it?

believe it or not, it's pretty sweet, actually. i had my doubts, but it's nice. not sure what the long-lasting effects on my vision will be if i use it all the time, so i'm sticking with the 2d everything from here on out (unless i'm texting some hot girls pics of my boner and they have an evo 3d, too).

Better battery life WITH the 3D on!? I think you mean in 2D. With the 3D on it has to essentially run 2 screens.

I'm guessing it's the same type of screen as in the Nintendo 3DS. I've had no problem personally playing that for hours at a time. I know some people have problems with it though. Quite like the 3D effect actually.

I haven't gotten to try any of these newer 3D screens, and am interested to see how it fares. Seems to be really hit and miss.

Actually if I were in a research field studying 3D and humans interaction with it would be pretty appealing. I think its an area that could help both our understanding of our vision as well as bring us better imaging technology.

huh? what i meant was that i have the ability to take pictures and see things in 3d on my phone. this phone has better battery life than the 4g, though. i wasn't combining the two points.

The 3D on the EVO 3D only pertains to taking pictures/videos, viewing pictures/videos, and a few games.

Most of the time the screen is just a normal 2D gui.

Yeah I thought you were combining the 2 points. I also thought that the GUI was in 3D, or could be in 3D. But as Schfifty Five points out it isn't. I would have been surprised if the battery life was better when always viewing in 3D :)

Mine is rooted already and running custom ROMs. It's my first Android phone and a significant upgrade from the Touch Pro 2 I'd been using for the last two years. I used the 3D to take a few pictures the first day I had the phone. Haven't touched it since. Like just about every other owner of the EVO3D I wish they omitted the "3D" in favor of a better camera.

Is there a step by step you used for rooting the EVO 3D? I'm thinking of getting this phone.

I'd prefer the Photon 4G to the Evo 3D.. but I'm content with my original Evo.
