G'day anandtech forum members,

I will be changing my cpu (currently a 3500+ clawhammer) to an Athlon X2 3800+. I have updated my bios to the latest available (a8n-sli deluxe) so it is ready to take an X2 processor.

Just a quick question, will I need to reinstall windows (currently windows 2000) or change anything to allow for the dual core setup or will this cpu swap work fine as is?

I guess I am also wondering if windows 2000 will just see the computer as having 2 cpu's now?

Thanks in advance!

You'd need to change the hardware abstraction layer from ACPI Uniprocessor to ACPI Multiprocessor, windows might do this by itself though.

It does indeed do this automatically.
