svideo out on new laptop, need some help

i just bought a new dell c600, it has svideo out and ive got an svideo to composite cable. i plugged it into my trinitron tv, but i didnt get anything, just black with some horizonal grey lines going by. I think it may be a software thing, i tried lowering the resolution, still no luck. I kind of want to watch dvds on my tv, so any help would be appreciated.

anybody? i installed new video drivers, updated the bios....

most laptops requires the user to choose a monitoring device by pressing a function key+ an F key
to switch from your default monitor to an external monitor.Don't know which key but look into your manual and you should find it there.

yeah its Fn + F8, that doesnt work either, just makes the tv blink. tried updated to latest bios, and updating to latest video drivers. in display settings, you can switch between lcd, a monitor, or a tv. the tv is greyed out no matter what i do. any other ideas?
