svchost.exe causing errors

Every time i shut down my Win2k machine, i get some kinda error about svchost.exe creating an error and windows is creating a log file. when i view the log file, it's a lot of memory addresses and stuff i can't understand. also, in the event viewer, there are a lot of red X's for the service control manager saying stuff like "The ________ service has stopped unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 0 milliseconds: no action"

some of the services are like telephony and System Event Notification and Removeable Storage Service.

any idea what's going on w/ this?
