SVC sub vs. DVC sub

I am planning on getting 1 12" sub in my car. I already bought the 12" Single Voice Coil Polk MOMO MM12WENC (WENC short for w/ enclosure) with 500watts RMS @ 4ohms! However my friend recommended Rockford Fosgate Punch HE2 Dual Voice Coil 12" sub with 400watts RMS @ 4ohms. He says dual voice coil is like having 2 subs! He works at best buy audio so I thought he would know better, but then I started reading some posts and people saying they are the same or something? So which one should I get? I will be using a Rockford Fosgate 501s 2-channel amp which will put out 500watts RMS bridge @ 4 ohms.

Hey "dawg" don't be "trippin" on them "mad tyte" BB audio workers. They can gouge your car, rip a basketball-sized hole in your firewall, and short out your deck in less than a half-hour!

Techie-If you go by my experiences with best buy audio people then go with the exact opposite of what he suggests.

Best buy kid - S-video still does not count as a digital audio connection
 
DVC won't sound different than SVC....the main difference is the wiring configuration that you can do. If you're going to be at 4ohms either way it won't make a diff., just stick with what you got unless the DVC is a model leap and bounds better than what you have now, but I doubt it is.
 
DVC = dual voice coil = almost always wired in parallel to lower the impedence to 2ohms...aka bridge
keep reading. Although that polk will hit with a nice mono block.

What he said, are you sure you won't be hitting 500 watts at 2ohms?
 
all the dvc will give you is more wiring options as far as I know... make sure you get the yellow verision of that polk sub, the red verision is on recall if i remember correctly.. I would stick to Polk because for the price 180-50MIR, you cant beat it.

ya i kno........500watts RMS @ 4ohms............so DVC is nuthing better than just more wires which I don't need?

 
with DVC's you'll get more power from an amp at lower impedences. People who want big boom with less speakers will use DVC's. RF quality has been in the toilet for years now, but you could use your bb friend for a discount.

well......ya, even w/ the discount they will still be around the same price as the MOMOs that were in the hot deals..........so im thinking 500rms watts (MOMO) > 400rms watts (RF). also, MOMO comes w/ box....RF doesn't

Also, so you wouldn't recommend the Rockford Fosgate 2 Channel AMP tht will put out 500watts RMS??
 
Since you are planning to use the amp solely for the sub, I would go with a class-D amp. Class-D amp gives you more power, runs cooler, is much smaller in size.

can you find me a good class-D amp tht gives me 500watts RMS for around $180?? Cause thts how much ill be getting my amp for...

 
check out the frequency range.. i noticed that the sony only goes to 50hz.. with a custom cabinet you could bring it lower of course. 50hz = rap blaster.. but if you crank up the rap, i guess it'll work for you 🙂
 
no diference between dvc, and svc

just how you can wire them as previously stated.

yea ones never enough, thats why i have 4 12's and a 1100 watt amp

(yes it is a TRUE 1100 watt amp, no cheap RF amp, or BB amp that is 1100 watts peak at 16v.)

1100 watts at 12.5volt i believe. 1 ohm

muhahaha

dont forget my diy component speakers, and 400 watt amp powering them 😀

well im gonna try out 1 12" sub, if tht doesnt work out then i can always get another one........however rite now, which amp do u guys recommend? I can get them for the same price.....the Rockford Fosgate 501s 500watts RMS @ 4 ohms 80-120Hz Low-Pass or the Sony XM-D1000P5 500watts RMS @ 4ohms 50-300 Hz low-pass filter???
 
what are the prices on those amps? truthfully i doubt they will actually put out 500 watts.

a lil bit pricey but VERY VERY VERY nice amps can be found www.edesignaudio.com

the avionixx 400.2 would fit you very well. its a nice amp

dont forget you will need wiring, rca's, a fuse, and inline fuse holder. all can be had very nicely priced @ www.knukonceptz.com

I can get either amp for around $200 after shipping or tax or whatever.......

thanx for the link to the amp kit.....do u recommend buying the amp kit or just the individual wires i will need....?
 
What's so good about Elemental Designs? the specs on their $185 amp (my budget) dont seem all that impressive.....
