Sweet, now data corruption costs EVEN LESS!!! Sorry, I hate to thread crap, but gah...use flat cables if you value your data.

Can you please provide us with some PROOF? I'd like to know if I just wasted $23 or if you're full of... ;)

Don't worry, he's full of it ;) I have two rounded ATA-133 cables on my CD-RW and DVD drives (one was on my IDE hard drive when I had it) and have never had any corruption problems. I now have a SCSI hard drive drive and am about to order a rounded SCSI cable for it

I know that they are technically out of spec, but I ran 2x60Gb RAID 0 setup on cables of lower quality for several months with absolutely no problems.

Yes, that is why I have several hundred PC's out there with absolutely no problem with rounded cables....but OK you are the expert right???

Just like those goofs at VooDoo and their Origami cable folding silliness.

Thanks for the heads up. I bought a floppy cable and some thumb screws. Man, they charge you $8.00 for first class shipping if you order 40 thumb screws. They can't be that heavy, geez.

Hmmm. I just ordered 4 thumb screws (I am assuming these are SETS of 4 each - may be surprised!), 3 24" cables, a CPU cooler, 4 3-pin to 4-pin adapters and 3 3-pin Y connectors and Priority shipping for the whole thing to SE Virginia was only $5.60. All those goodies INCLUDING shipping (no tax charged) netted out at $30.07.

Bill00, the first time I ordered from SVC I thought the same thing, but in fact 1 order of screws means just one screw. So you ordered 4, means you're getting just 4 screws, not 4 sets of 4. The good thing about SVC was at least they gave me one full set of 4 when I thought I was ordering 3 sets of 4. I checked their site yesterday and noticed that they've spelled out exactly that one order means one screw. I guess we're not the only ones this has happened to.

Thanks for the info.

Hard to believe the "regular" price for those suckers is .99 each! Suspect I can probably find something servicable a LOT cheaper at Lowes or some other hardware store. I don't mind paying for essentials, but for a dollar a piece, I will pick up a screwdriver! ;)

Um, probably a dumb question, but, I had seen a while ago on directron, that they had ATA133 flat IDE cables, but it said ONLY for ATA133...this confused me a bit, because why would it just be for ATA133..since it's geared for fast speeds, couldn't it handle slower speeds as ATA66 or ATA100 have?

<--going to the computer show (it's in town today!) in a couple hours, so I'd really appreciate it if someone knows about this..

:)
edit: meh...I'll just assume that they are backwards compatible, because a lot of the places are showing ATA133..works with ATA100/ATA66/ATA33 so, I'll just assume ;)

There are never dumb questions.
I too would have thought they are backwards compatible, I'm running some ata 133 cables on my ata 100. Unfortunatley they don't have model numbers eh? Has anyone heard of a cable being not backwards compatible?

ATA133 Cables are identical to ATA100/66 cables. That is, they all have 80 wires, 40 of which are grounded. Should be backward compatible with all IDE standards.

Does anyone know a site that has clear fans with blue leds that are thermal controlled (or that their cfm is above 40cfm)? SVC has clear fans with blue leds but cfm is only 32 so its too weak for my cpu =) Thanks

Oh and I know nexfan has these but their a bit pricey at 9.99.

To my local SJ'ers...

Have they opened up a retail storefront yet? The last time I went to pickup some stuff they were still based out of the western union.

Buying rounded cables?

Get any cable, splice it and twist. Then use the plastic squeegie things that automotive shops use for sealing their wires in the hood of a car.

yes, there are some backward compatibility problems. Some faster ATA cables have a pin blocked off in the cable, while the pinned connector has a pin there. Wont go on.

A hot paper clip or pin pushed through to make a pin hole in each end of the cable, or the smallest drill bit in a set solves this problem, however.

Dont try to save money by making your own round cables, they're too easy to &#^#$ up and too cheap to buy a good one.

"wowee ma, I saved $3 making my own round IDE cable....huh...why did everything on my hard drive that I spent 2 years compiling just turn to crap?!?"
