What's the fastest CPU I can reasonably cool with this HSF?

I know it'll do a 1.4 tbird easy, meaning that it could take on the low end XPs. But how high do you think it can cool, assuming no overclocking?

The only reason I ask is because they seem to be fairly inexpensive now.

The lower end Xp's run cooler than the 1.4ghz tbird. The SVC golden gate should be able to handle any amd cpu right now. It's really an awesome heatsink. I would compare it to the level of the Thermalright SK-6

The Golden Gate 40 is an excellent heatsink, as you both pointed out. It was actually one of the best heatsinks (when paired with the Delta 7000RPM screamer) at cooling even an Athlon XP 1700+ as we found in our March 2002 Air Cooler Roundup It shouldn't have any problem cooling any of the Athlon XP processors. Basically, if an AX-7 can cool the processor well, the Golden Gate 40 will be right there next to it.

Peace
